Chrysler 200 Ball Joint Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a faulty ball joint on Chrysler 200?
A: On 2015 and later models, the ball joint is an integral part of the control arm and is not serviced separately. If the ball joint is faulty, the entire control arm must be replaced. Loosen the wheel lug nuts and drive axle/hub nut, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel. Remove the brake caliper and disc. Remove the clip that holds the wheel speed sensor onto the knuckle. Remove the speed sensor bolt and pull the sensor up and out of the knuckle. Remove the ball joint-to-control arm nut, then separate the ball joint from the control arm using a ball joint separator tool. Carefully pull the knuckle outwards and off of the drive axle, being careful not to overextend the inner CV joint. If the splines stick in the hub, press the drive axle out with a puller. Support the drive axle with a length of wire or rope. There is a small hole in the knuckle at the ball joint cap. Use a drift punch to knock the snap-ring off the ball joint. Using a ball joint press tool and the appropriate adapters, place the tools over the ball joint and proceed to tighten the press tool until the ball joint comes out of the knuckle. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use a new ball joint stud nut and tighten all fasteners.
