Chrysler 300 Ball Joint

Chrysler 300 version of the Ball Joint is a ball-shaped linkage that provides free movement in two orthogonal planes between control arms and steering knuckles. Made from steel metal material is used to create the Ball Joint which comprises of a bearing stud and socket and when not in use is covered by a rubber shield to prevent contact with dirt or moisture. Throughout the Chrysler 300 car manufacturing, several models of Ball Joints have been used in the car with the latest multilink suspensions having many joints than the previous models hence increasing the frequency of wearing and failing. While the basic designs of most vehicles may consist of merely the upper and the lower Ball Joints, the Chrysler 300 stock cars of the present day may be equipped with some advanced Ball Joints that are integrated with motion controlling springs. Most of these have evolved superseding older kingpin designs providing better control and balance to vehicles. While today you can find tons of ball joints that are hermetically sealed for lifetime, still you should pay attention to these pieces of your vehicle because they wear and might cause unsafe driving after rather a while - approximately 80 thousand miles.

Chrysler 300 Ball Joint Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How Can I Inspect the Control Arm Balljoints on Chrysler 300?
A: Inspect the Control Arm balljoints for looseness anytime they are separated from the Steering Knuckle. If the balljoint is loose, or if the ballstud can be turned, replace the balljoint. To inspect the upper balljoint, loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the wheel. Raise the lower control arm with a floor jack to simulate normal ride height. To inspect the lower balljoint, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Place a floor jack under the lower control arm, near the outer end, and raise it until it is supporting the vehicle's weight. If replacement is indicated, remove the steering knuckle or tension strut; the balljoint is press fit in the steering knuckle and tension strut. Equipment rental yards and some auto parts stores have these tools available for rent. If not, take the vehicle (or the steering knuckle) to an automotive machine shop or other qualified repair facility.
