Chrysler 300 Heater Core

The Heater Core in Chrysler 300 vehicles is connected with the climate control system and offers warm air to the interior when the heating is turned on. Serving like a vehicle's radiator, the Heater Core makes use of water antifreeze blend for purpose of dissipating excessive engine heat within the vehicle cab. It is, as a rule, made of aluminum or brass with fins which improve heat exchange rates, a fan blows air through the core to warm the cabin. Possible changes in Heater Core style may have occurred throughout the Chrysler 300 models, which may include the use of valves in order to control the flow of warmer or cooler air in addition to electromechanical structures that actuate the Heater Core. Problems found with the Heater Core are clogging, leaks, and rusting, which require dismantling of the dashboard because of their integration with the automobile's interior.

A: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the cooling system. Disconnect the heater hoses at the heater core in the engine compartment at the firewall. Tape or plug all openings. Remove the lower instrument panel insulator. Remove the blend door actuator from the heater/air conditioning housing located just above the heater core. Remove the two fasteners that hold the heater core tubes to the heater/air conditioning housing and then remove the flange from the housing. Place towels underneath the heater core tubes and fittings, cut the rubber shrink tubing from around the fittings and then remove the retaining clips from the fittings. Pull the heater core tubes directly out of the heater core and from the firewall and set them aside. Cover or plug the heater core openings. Remove the retainer screw and retainer holding the heater core in the heater/air conditioning housing. Pull the heater core out of the heater/air conditioning housing being careful not to damage any of the seals. Before installing the heater core, make sure all foam seals are in place. Start the engine and check for any leaks and for proper heater operation.
