Chrysler Cirrus Center Console Base Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How can you safely remove the center console without causing damage on Chrysler Cirrus?
A: The center console can be easily scratched, so take care in removing the assembly to avoid damage. The center console on these vehicles is composed of two separate parts. For the floor console removal, first disconnect the negative battery cable from the ground stud on the left shock tower. Completely raise the parking brake lever. On vehicles with a manual transaxle, pull the gear shift boot down away from the knob to expose the knob retaining clips, pry the clips away from the shift lever, and remove the gear shift knob. Grasp the base of the boot at the floor console, squeeze it together, and remove it from the gear shift lever. For vehicles with an automatic transaxle, remove the shift lever set screw and lift the handle assembly off the shift lever, then carefully pry the shift position indicator bezel from the floor console and disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the two screws securing the front of the console, then pry off the trim plugs at the rear and remove the two screws from the console, noting that on vehicles with a storage box/arm rest type console, the rear screws are located inside the storage area. Maneuver the floor console up and over the shift lever and parking brake handle to remove it from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal. For the forward console removal, first remove the floor console, then remove the dashboard center bezel. Unscrew the screws securing the storage bin and remove it from the console. Remove the two screws securing the forward console to the gear selector mount bracket, followed by the screws holding the console to the instrument panel at each side of the heater/air conditioning controls, storage bin area, and panel support braces. With all fasteners removed, carefully withdraw the forward console from the vehicle, and installation is the reverse of removal.
