- Q: How to replace disc brake pads on both front wheels on Chrysler Laser?A: Disc brake pads must be replaced on both front wheels at the same time - never replace the pads on only one wheel. Disassemble one brake at a time so the remaining brake can be used as a guide if difficulties are encountered during reassembly. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely. Block the rear wheels and set the parking brake, then remove the front wheels. Remove the hold down spring retainer by pushing down at the center and pushing it outward. Loosen the caliper guide pins sufficiently to allow the caliper to be removed. Lift the caliper forward and off the adapter and brake disc. The inner pad will remain with the caliper. Remove the inner pad by grasping it securely and unsnapping the retainer from the piston. Remove the outer pad from the caliper. If the noise suppression gasket causes the pad to adhere to the caliper, pry it loose with a screwdriver. Support the caliper out of the way with a wire hanger. Do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose. Measure the brake pad thickness (including the metal backing material) and compare it to the Specifications. Inspect the caliper and adapter for wear, damage, rust and fluid leaks. If the caliper-to-adapter mating surfaces are rusty, clean them thoroughly with a wire brush. Apply Mopar lubricant (No.2932524) or high temperature brake grease to the adapter-to-brake pad and caliper mating surfaces. Remove the protective paper from the noise suppression gasket on both pads. Install the inner brake pad by pressing the retainer into the piston recess. Do not get any grease on the pad lining material, gasket surface or brake disc. Place the outer pad in position in the caliper. Install the caliper over the brake disc and adapter. Install the guide pins finger tight, taking care not to cross-thread them. Tighten the guide pins to the specified torque. Install the pad retainer. Repeat the procedure for the remaining caliper. The remaining steps are the reverse of disassembly. When installing the wheel and tire assemblies, tighten the lug nuts in a criss-cross pattern and work up to the specified torque in two steps. The first step should be equal to one-half the specified torque. Drive the vehicle and make several stops to wear off any foreign material on the pads and seat the linings on the disc.
