A: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Drain the cooling system and save the coolant if it is in good condition. Remove the mounting fasteners for the intermediate shaft coupler cover/dash seal to create clearance. Remove the brake light switch from its bracket and secure it aside. Disconnect the power brake booster pushrod from the brake pedal arm. Place towels underneath the heater core tube fittings and remove the retaining clips. Pull the tubes from the heater core and rotate them out of the way, plugging or capping the openings. Remove the heater core retaining bracket fasteners and the bracket. Move the accelerator pedal up and the brake pedal down, and move the intermediate shaft cover/seal to allow enough clearance to remove the core. Carefully pull the heater core out of the heater/air conditioning housing. For the rear, remove the right rear trim panel. Remove the upper air duct from the heater/air conditioning housing and the lower air duct from above the rear wheel housing. Pinch off the heater hoses at the heater core and detach them. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing upper mounting fasteners. Release the four plastic retainers while pulling the heater core out of the housing. Tilt the housing towards the rear of the vehicle to remove the heater core completely. Installation is the reverse of removal, pre-filling the heater core and quickly attaching the hoses. Verify the rear unit is filled completely by thermal cycling the vehicle.
