Dodge Colt Cylinder Head Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you unbolt and remove the intake manifold and cylinder head while ensuring proper reassembly and adjustments in 1.5L engine on Dodge Colt?
A: Unbolt and remove the intake manifold complete with carburettor, followed by the exhaust manifold. Next, remove the upper section of the Timing Belt cover and unbolt the fuel pump from the cylinder head. Take out the timing belt and camshaft sprocket to the sprocket holder, then remove the backing plate of the timing belt cover upper section. After that, take off the rocker cover and unscrew the socket headed type cylinder head bolts in the reverse order of tightening, using a hexagonal type (Allen key) bit, loosening them progressively in stages. Lift the cylinder head from the block without tapping it sideways, as it is located on dowels and must be removed directly upwards. For refitting, reverse the removal operations, ensuring that the head and block surfaces are clean and using a new gasket without any jointing compound. Tighten all bolts progressively to the specified torque, using new gaskets for the manifolds and applying sealant around the coolant hole in the intake manifold gasket while ensuring that the sealant does not seep into the jet air passage. Adjust the valve clearances and, after refitting the distributor, check the ignition timing. Finally, fill the cooling system.
