  • Q: How to install and adjust a parking brake cable on Dodge Daytona?
A: Raise the vehicle and support it securely. Working underneath the vehicle, loosen the adjusting nut and disengage the cable from the connector. Inside the vehicle, lift the floor mat or carpeting and remove the floor pan seal panel. Pull the cable forward to disconnect it from the clevis. Remove the cable assembly through the hole. To install the cable, insert the cable housing retainers into the rail bracket hole and the parking brake pedal assembly. Feed the end of the cable through the holes in the pan and the rail bracket. Install the floor seal. Engage the end of the cable in the lever clevis and seat the cable ends in the parking brake assembly and the rail bracket. Install the floor mat. Engage the rear cable in the equalizer bracket, then adjust it. Remove the rear wheels and the hub/drum assemblies. Back off the adjusting nut until the cable is slack. Disconnect the rear brake cable from the connector. Disconnect the cable at the brake shoe lever. Use a screw-type hose clamp to compress the retainers so the cable can be removed from the brake backing plate. Remove the clamp when the cable is free. Pull the cable from the backing plate and rear axle. To install the cable, insert the cable and the inner housing end through the trailing arm holes and the crossmember cable bracket. Connect the chassis fitting to the bracket. Insert the outer cable end through the support hole and snap the retainer into place. Attach the cable to the lever in the brake shoe assembly, making sure the washer is between the cable spring and parking brake lever. Insert the cable inner end into the connector. Install the hub/drum assemblies. Attach the cable to the connector, then adjust the parking brake.
