Dodge Neon Fuel Tank

The Fuel Tank of Dodge Neon vehicles is a part that provides a host for fuel storage, electric fuel pump as well as the fuel gauge sender. It is especially used in the EVAP or Evaporative Emission Control System to help combat fuel vapors from escaping. Dodge Neon Fuel Tanks for the most part are made from either metal or from plastic where the metal tanks are generally stamped and then welded into place, as for the plastic tanks they are mainly made from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and are blow molded. Metal tanks will rust and plastic tanks are likely to crack due to temperature variation and vibration. Racing fuel tanks have thus been redesign to fuel cells that cannot be easily punctured and spill GAS in case of an accident. Extra-large fuel reservoirs of the same materials are also available to increase the driving distance by many fold.

Dodge Neon Fuel Tank Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove the Fuel Tank from My Dodge Neon?
A: If the vehicle still runs, it's best to use up as much fuel as possible before beginning this procedure. Slowly remove the fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure and then relieve the system fuel pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise the rear of the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the vapor line from the EVAP canister and remove the EVAP canister. Put an approved gasoline container under the drain cap, unscrew the fuel tank drain cap and then drain the tank. When the tank is empty, install the drain cap. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Fuel Pump/fuel level sending unit module. Disconnect the fuel line from the Fuel Filter/Fuel Pressure Regulator. Disconnect the fuel filler neck vent hose from the fuel tank, loosen the fuel filler-neck hose clamp and disconnect the fuel filler neck hose from the fuel tank inlet pipe. Place a transmission jack or a floor jack under the fuel tank to support it. Remove the nuts that secure the fuel tank straps. Remove the EVAP canister mounting bracket from the right fuel tank mounting stud and push it aside. Carefully lower the fuel tank from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the fuel tank strap nuts to the torque. When you're done, start the engine and check for leaks at any fuel line connectors that you disconnected.
  • Q: What Should Be Considered When Removing a Fuel Tank From a Dodge Neon?
A: Change out the fuel tank if damaged. Do not place it in an area where sparks/open flames can ignite the fumes, especially in garages where a gas-type appliance is present. If these precautions are not taken, it could cause an explosion.
