- Q: How do you replace the ignition switch and lock cylinder on Dodge Neon?A: There are few steps needed to perform to replace the ignition switch, the first step is to remove the battery negative cable and then isolate it from the terminal. Pull off the steering column covers and the ignition lock cylinder. Release the electrical connection with the switch of the ignition and remove the Torx head screw fixed on the steering column for the switch. Press the retaining tabs inwards to release the switch and lower it out of the column, if necessary using a screwdriver. When fitting the new switch, physically position the switch to the ON state and align the actuator shaft to be also in the ON position before engaging. The installation process is done in the reverse order in which the removal process was done. However for the lock cylinder it is recommended that you disconnect and isolate the negative cable. Place the ignition key and turn the switch on. Insert a small screwdriver and push on the retainer tab through the hole provided at the lower part of the steering column cover. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the housing. Align the slot in the ignition switch to the ON position and then place the new ignition lock cylinder till the positioning tab comes under the housing and test the key operation.
