What is the purpose and location of the Supplemental Restraint System and Air Bag Control Module on Ram 1500?

The airbag system is also known as Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and is present in all these models. At least two airbags are available on all models, one for the driver and the other being a front passenger's. In the event of a frontal or head-on crash, the SRS system is intended to prevent serious injuries to its occupants. The airbag control module can be found at the center of instrument panel below transmission tunnel. Other particular versions may include side curtain bags. Models with this option have "SRS - AIRBAG" printed on the headliner above the B-pillar. There are two main components in an airbag module; the bag itself and inflator unit that activates during deployment by an electrical signal from ACM situated on back of housing. A glove box space just above the dashboard houses a passenger airbag which incorporates its ON/OFF switch located near bottom section right corner of bezel for central instrument panel. In Quad Cab models, optional side-curtain airbags if installed would be located on each roof side rail, above the headliner, extending from A pillar to C pillar (Ram). Microprocessor for monitoring and running of vehicle's airbag system is Airbag Control Module (ACM). The ACM tests it every time you start your engine again. Standard driver and front passenger bags are operated through ACMs too (Acura). Side Impact Airbag Control Modules (SIACMs) are also included in vehicles with optional side-curtain airbags. There exists one SIACM per each side-curtain bag as well (Subaru Forester). While working around any part of SRS systems or their wiring make sure you deactivate them first,. To do this ignition key should be turned off then cables disconnected off negative battery terminals; keep reminding them why they need to wait for 2 minutes after disconnecting before proceeding further on with jobs. To re-enable the system, turn ignition off, connect cable(s) back onto negative battery terminal(s), and without any human body part in front of an airbag position yourself to turn on vehicle's ignition switch.

Q: What is the purpose and location of the Supplemental Restraint System and Air Bag Control Module on Ram 1500?
A: The airbag system is also known as Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and is present in all these models. At least two airbags are available on all models, one for the driver and the other being a front passenger's. In the event of a frontal or head-on crash, the SRS system is intended to prevent serious injuries to its occupants. The airbag control module can be found at the center of instrument panel below transmission tunnel. Other particular versions may include side curtain bags. Models with this option have "SRS - AIRBAG" printed on the headliner above the B-pillar. There are two main components in an airbag module; the bag itself and inflator unit that activates during deployment by an electrical signal from ACM situated on back of housing. A glove box space just above the dashboard houses a passenger airbag which incorporates its ON/OFF switch located near bottom section right corner of bezel for central instrument panel. In Quad Cab models, optional side-curtain airbags if installed would be located on each roof side rail, above the headliner, extending from A pillar to C pillar (Ram).
