    Q:
How to remove and inspect rocker arms and lash adjusters in 2.7L V6 engine on Chrysler 300? Posted by Customer
    A:
A universal shaft-type valve spring compressor will be required for this procedure. The only other alternative to accomplishing this task without the use of this special tool is to remove the liming chains and the camshafts which requires major disassembly of the engine and surrounding components. Before beginning this procedure, be sure to place the transmission in Neutral and apply the parking brake or block the rear wheels. Also, disable the ignition system by disconnecting the primary electrical connectors at the ignition coils and remove the spark plugs. Remove the upper intake manifold and the valve cover(s). Rotate the engine with a socket and ratchet attached to the crankshaft pulley bolt until the cam lobe for the rocker arm to be removed is located on its base circle. Turn the crankshaft in a clockwise direction. Before the rocker arms and lash adjusters are removed, arrange to label and store them, so they can be kept separate and reinstalled on the same valve they were removed from. Mount the valve spring compressor on the cylinder head. Depress the valve spring just enough to release tension on the rocker arm to be removed. Once tension on the rocker arm is relieved, the rocker arm can be removed by simply pulling it out. If you're replacing or removing all of the rockers arms or lash adjusters, begin with cylinder number one and work on the rocker arms for one cylinder at a time. Move from cylinder-to-cylinder following the firing order sequence. Remember to keep the rocker arm and lash adjuster for each valve together so they can be reinstalled in the same locations. Once the rocker arms are removed, the lash adjusters can be pulled out of the cylinder head and stored with the corresponding rocker arm. Inspect each rocker arm for wear, cracks and other damage. Make sure the rollers turn freely and show no signs of wear, also check the pivot area for wear, cracks and galling. Inspect the lash adjuster contact surfaces wear or damage. Make sure the lash adjusters move up and down freely in their bores on the cylinder head without excessive side to side play. Installation is the reverse of removal with the following exceptions: Always install the lash adjuster first and make sure they're at least partially full of oil before installation. This is indicated by little or no lash adjuster plunger travel.

    Q:
How to remove and install rocker arms and Lash Adjuster in 3.5L V6 engine on Dodge Charger? Posted by Customer
    A:
During the course of taking these out, be careful not to allow any air to enter into the lash adjusters and protect the plastic retainers and the lash adjusters from any damage. First remove valve cover(s), then mark rocker arms and pedestals for identification purposes. There are two intake and two exhaust rocker arms per cylinder. Gradually loosen each rocker arm shaft bolt until they can be hand-removed as an assembly, making sure to loosen them in reverse order of tightening sequence. Don't put it upside down or let it rest on top of the lash adjuster when handling the rocker arm assembly so as not to cause potential harm. To inspect, closely examine each rocker arm for wear, cracks, etc., paying particular attention to the steel roller tips/hydraulic lash adjusters. Make sure there are no roller wear signs while rolling smoothly on steel roller surfaces; also check if there is any wearing out or damage at contact faces of a hydraulic lash adjuster with a valve stem tip surface. Ascertain that all lashes' retaining caps securely hold all tongues in place on rockers' arms. Do not ever try removing any latch tumbler from said arms since either part will suffer destruction above described lines. Check rocks pivot areas and shafts for wear, cracks, galling and replace those worn out or damaged rockers or shafts Confirm that one side does not protrude more than another at axle of roller tip; also its hydraulic lash adjuster's valve stem tip contact surface should be inspected for wear, cracks or galling. Then use 4 mm screw (with nuts), washer and spacer as a puller for removal of dowel pins from each pedestal for further inspection purposes Note: New dowel pins must be installed during reassembly phase In case you previously have removed intakeshaft/pedestal or exhaustshaft/pedestal together with inspection execute lubrication of both shafts before installing rockers along with respective pedestals into their pre-marked order. It is necessary to assemble the intake rockers on the intake shaft and exhaust rockers on the exhaust shaft, paying attention that when they are assembled notches in rocker arm shafts should be up to avoid damaging arm. Then reinstall new dowel pins in each pedestal by pressing them until bottom out To install the rocker arm assemblies properly, and to achieve a "no load" situation on the valvetrain, ensure that the camshafts are in a "neutral" position. Rotate engine until crankshaft sprocket and camshaft sprockets align correctly for TDC number 1 Tighten right side rocker arm assembly bolts following appropriate sequence/torque specifications then install left rocker arm assembly with notches on left rocker arm shafts aiming up and toward front of engine Observe the correct torque sequence for tightening. The remaining steps of installation process are just reversely similar to those of removal procedure, start an engine after completion check oil leakages.
