    Q:
How to check and replace powertrain mounts in V8 engine on Dodge Magnum? Posted by Customer
    A:
There are three powertrain mounts; the left and right ones attach to the engine block, subframe and the engine block while a rear one is attached to the transmission and the frame. During testing, the mounts must have no weight on them so that the engine should be slightly lifted. Raise vehicle and secure it with jack stands then place a jack under engine oil pan. Place a huge wood block between jack head and oil pan, then lift up carefully just enough to remove weight from mount. Look for cracked or hardened rubber or separation of rubber from metal center in mount insulators. Check for movement between mount and engine or subframe. Make use of large screwdriver or prybar to see if those mounts can move. Lower engine if movement is detected, then tighten mount fasteners.Disconnect cable from negative terminal of battery for replacement.Raise vehicle and support it securely on jackstands (if not already done).Position a jack under the engine oil pan.Place a large wood block between the jack head and the oil pan.If you're taking out right side mount (which includes alternator support bracket), disconnect alternator support bracket.Remove nuts securing subframe to engine mount and raise engine by using this jack.Remove bolts holding mounting bracket to motor.Align new mount correctly in bracket before installing.Securely tighten fasteners after they've been installed.
