    Q:
What should be done if engine mounts are broken or deteriorated on Chrysler Imperial? Posted by Customer
    A:
Engine mounts seldom require attention, but broken or deteriorated mounts should be replaced immediately to prevent damage or wear on driveline components. During the check, the engine must be raised slightly to remove the weight from the mounts. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then position a jack under the engine oil pan with a large block of wood between the jack head and the oil pan, carefully raising the engine just enough to relieve the weight on the mounts. Inspect the mount insulators for cracks, hardened rubber, or separation from the metal plates, noting that the rubber may split down the center. Check for relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame using a large screwdriver or prybar; if movement is noted, lower the engine and tighten the mount fasteners. Apply rubber preservative to the insulators to slow deterioration. To replace the mounts, disconnect the negative battery cable, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands if not already done. Remove the fasteners and detach the insulator from the frame bracket, then raise the engine slightly with a jack or hoist, remove the insulator-to-engine bolts, and detach the insulator. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, using thread locking compound on the mount bolts and ensuring they are tightened securely. The right and left engine mounts are adjustable to allow drivetrain movement in relation to driveaxle assembly length, and adjustments should be made when servicing the driveaxles, after front end structural damage, or when replacing a mount. Remove the load on the engine mounts by carefully supporting the engine and transaxle assembly with a floor jack, then loosen the right insulator vertical fasteners and the front engine mount bracket-to-front crossmember bolts and nuts. The left engine mount insulator is sleeved over the shaft and long support bolt to provide lateral movement adjustment. Pry the engine right or left as required to achieve the proper driveaxle length, then securely tighten the right engine mount insulator vertical bolts, the front engine mount bolts and nuts, and center the left engine mount insulator. Finally, recheck the driveaxle length.

Remove the fasteners and detach the insulator from the frame bracket. 4. Raise the engine slightly with a jack or hoist. 5. Remove the insulator-to-engine bolts and detach the insulator. 6.
