    Q:
How to Remove the Heater Core from a Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the heater core, begin by discharging the air conditioning system on 2014 and earlier Challenger models. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, ensuring to disconnect the Intelligent Battery Sensor connector first on 2015 and later models. Drain the cooling system and disconnect the heater hoses at the firewall in the engine compartment, taping or plugging all openings. On 2005 models, remove the lower instrument panel insulator and the blend door actuator from the heater/air conditioning housing. Remove the fasteners holding the heater core tubes to the housing and remove the flange. Cut the rubber shrink tubing and remove the retaining clips from the fittings. Pull the heater core tubes out of the heater core and from the firewall, covering or plugging the openings. Remove the retainer screw and retainer holding the heater core in the housing, then carefully pull the heater core out. On 2006 and later models, remove the floor center console and the instrument panel. Disengage the plastic push-pin fasteners and remove the ducts. On all models except 2014 and earlier Challenger models, remove the heater core tube clamps and tubes, discarding the O-ring seals and covering the open ports. Remove the heater core bracket retaining screw and bracket, replacing the foam seal if damaged. Carefully pull the heater core straight out of the air distribution housing. On 2014 and earlier Challenger models, remove the cowl panel, strut tower support, wiper motor, canister purge solenoid, and PCM if necessary. Remove the interior ventilation filter and disengage the filter housing push-pin fasteners. Remove the housing and disconnect the refrigerant lines at the firewall. Remove the heater/air conditioning housing mounting nuts and lift the housing upwards until the drain tube clears the grommet. Remove the housing from the vehicle and remove the cover and heater core retaining bracket. Carefully pull the heater core tubes out from the foam seal and pull the heater core straight out of the housing. To install the heater core, ensure all foam seals are in place and slide the heater core into the housing. Reinstall all remaining components in reverse order and refill the cooling system. Reconnect the battery and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak-tested on 2006 through 2014 Challenger models. Start the engine and check for any leaks and proper heater operation.
