    Q:
How to replace the key lock cylinder and ignition switch in a Chrysler 300? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the key is hard to turn, the issue may not be the ignition switch or Ignition Lock Cylinder, but could be due to a misaligned transmission shift cable or Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) cable. To replace the Ignition Lock Cylinder, disconnect the battery, remove the ignition switch and instrument cluster bezel, insert the key and turn it to ON, depress the retaining pin and remove the cylinder. Ensure the key is in ON position and align the D-shaped lug with the socket before installing the new cylinder. To replace the ignition switch, disconnect the battery, disable the airbag, remove the knee bolster and reinforcement panel, disconnect the electrical connectors and BTSI cable, and remove the switch. The Sentry Key Remote Entry Module (SKREEM) recognizes the key's encrypted RF signal, unlocking the doors and allowing the engine to start. If the key or SKREEM is replaced, reprogramming is required at a dealership.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall the ignition switch and Ignition Lock Cylinder on Chrysler PT Cruiser? Posted by Customer
    A:
To decommission the ignition switch the following has to be done; disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, then take out the instrument cluster bezel, centre bezel, lower knee bolster and the steering column. Turn down the steering wheel lever and remove the upper portion of the steering column, next remove the screws that hold the multi-function switch in place and adjust it. Following that, you unscrew the ignition lock cylinder then pull the electrical connector of the ignition switch, and then the Torx head screw that holds the switch to the steering column. Press the two retaining tabs and pull the switch out of the steering column. To reinstall, place the switch in the RUN position, and to reverse the procedure above. On models prior to 2005, incorporate the negative terminal of the battery and insert the ignition key, turn the switch to RUN, and using a small screwdriver press the tab which is bordered in a hole in the lower part of the steering wheel cover to pull out the lock cylinder. Place the ignition switch in the RUN position when reinserting the lock cylinder into the housing, and test the keys. In models from 2006 and later, pull the cable away from the negative terminal of the battery, remove the upper and lower steering column covers and remove the screws which secure the right multi-function switch to the bracket. Slide the switch off the clockspring and set it to the side then lower the steering column and put the key to RUN position. Disconnect the screw which is used to hold the ignition key module onto the ignition lock cylinder, release the module retainer fingers and put the module back at its proper position in the ignition lock cylinder. Last of all, employ a small screwdriver or an awl to apply pressure in the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab and to remove the ignition lock cylinder from the lock cylinder housing.

    Q:
How do you disconnect and reinstall the ignition switch and key lock cylinder on Chrysler Town & Country? Posted by Customer
    A:
Take off the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Takeaway the knee bolster and the steering column covers, if any. Rotate the ignition lock cylinder to the ON position, press the ignition lock cylinder retaining tab, and take out the ignition lock cylinder. Lay in the upper and lower steering column covers. Switch on the ignition by turning the key and fit the ignition lock cylinder as well. Screw the cable on the negative terminal of the battery. Cautiously unscrew the one Torx sized head mounting screw used for the ignition switch. Push down the ignition switch retaining tabs and thus release the switch from the steering column. Pull the connector from the ignition switch releasing the connector tab; do not bend the connector. Prior to connecting the vessel to the ignition switch make sure that the ignition key is in ON position and the actuator shaft of the ignition lock cylinder housing is to ON. Another is when placing the ignition switch unto the actuator shaft the switch will go over the two retaining tabs. Be certain that the square receptacle in the ignition switch is in the ON position, line the receptacle and its actuator shaft before pushing the switch over the ignition lock cylinder housing until the tabs are locked. Fit in the upper and the lower steering column covers and then ground terminal of the battery to the cable connected to them.

    Q:
How do you replace the ignition switch and lock cylinder on Dodge Neon? Posted by Customer
    A:
There are few steps needed to perform to replace the ignition switch, the first step is to remove the battery negative cable and then isolate it from the terminal. Pull off the steering column covers and the ignition lock cylinder. Release the electrical connection with the switch of the ignition and remove the Torx head screw fixed on the steering column for the switch. Press the retaining tabs inwards to release the switch and lower it out of the column, if necessary using a screwdriver. When fitting the new switch, physically position the switch to the ON state and align the actuator shaft to be also in the ON position before engaging. The installation process is done in the reverse order in which the removal process was done. However for the lock cylinder it is recommended that you disconnect and isolate the negative cable. Place the ignition key and turn the switch on. Insert a small screwdriver and push on the retainer tab through the hole provided at the lower part of the steering column cover. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the housing. Align the slot in the ignition switch to the ON position and then place the new ignition lock cylinder till the positioning tab comes under the housing and test the key operation.
