    Q:
How to Remove a Cooling Fan Assembly on Jeep Compass? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Set the parking brake, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Drain the cooling system to a level that is just below the upper radiator hose. Remove the air intake duct. Remove the close-out panel between the grille and the radiator support. Remove the hood latch. Remove the air dam lower fasteners and release the air dam from the fan shroud. Remove the upper radiator hose support bracket fastener, then disconnect the hose and position it out of the way. Remove the radiator support fasteners and remove the panel. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connectors and harness retaining pins. Move the wiring harness away from the fan shroud. Release the upper clips and fasteners holding the fan assembly to the radiator. Remove the cooling fan assembly by pulling it straight up and out of the engine compartment. Installation is the reverse of removal. Place the fan assembly back into the retaining clips for the side and bottom. Refill the cooling system.

    Q:
How to Replace the Cooling Fan on My Chrysler Sebring? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the engine is overheating and the cooling fan is not coming on when the engine temperature rises to an excessive level, check the fan relays in the underhood fuse/relay box. If the relays are okay, check all wiring and connections to the fan motor. If no obvious problems are found, the problem could be the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor or the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Have the cooling fan system and circuit diagnosed by a dealer service department or repair shop with the proper diagnostic equipment. To replace the cooling fan, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Set the parking brake, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Drain the cooling system. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connector and harness retaining pins. On 2011 and later models, remove the fasteners holding the wire loom to the upper radiator core support. Remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator. On 2011 and later models, remove the oil dipstick tube to make room for fan removal. Remove the upper clips and fasteners holding the fan assembly to the radiator. On later models, remove the fan shroud mounting bolts. Remove the cooling fan assembly by pulling it straight up and out of the engine compartment. Installation is the reverse of removal. Place the fan assembly back into the retaining clips for the side and bottom. Refill the cooling system.

    Q:
How to Check and Replace the Engine-Mounted Cooling Fan and radiator-mounted cooling fan on Dodge Ram 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The engine-mounted cooling fan, also known as the viscous fan, is controlled by the PCM and should be checked by a qualified repair shop if it is not coming on and causing the engine to overheat. Symptoms of fan clutch failure include noisy operation, looseness, vibration, and fluid leakage. To check the fan, rock it back and forth for excessive bearing play and turn the blades by hand. For a hot engine check, start the engine and let it warm up, then turn off the engine and try turning the fan by hand. For a radiator-mounted electric cooling fan, if it is not coming on, the fan motor can be tested by connecting it directly to the battery. For component replacement, the viscous and electric cooling fans are removed together. For diesel engines, the process is similar, but there may be additional steps. For 2010 and later models, the process involves disconnecting the battery, removing the radiator top cover plate, detaching the viscous fan, and unclipping the fan shrouds.

    Q:
How can an electric cooling fan be tested for the 2010 Dodge Ram 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
For a radiator-mounted electric cooling fan, if it is not coming on when the A/C is selected or the engine temperature rises, the fan motor can be tested by connecting it directly to the battery with a fused jumper wire. If the fan motor does not come on, it should be replaced. If the motor is okay but still not coming on, the fan relay may be defective and should be checked by a qualified repair shop. Wiring and connections to the fan motor should also be checked.
