    Q:
How do you remove and install the exhaust manifold in 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engine on Dodge Dakota? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before you begin the removal of the exhaust manifold the following instructions should be followed; Switch off the starter motor and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal. Chock the rear wheels, engage the parking brake, lift the front of the vehicle and safely latch the jackstands. Loosen the exhaust pipe from the bolt that is attached to the exhaust manifold. For 4.7L V8 models it is necessary to disconnect the drivebelt, remove engine coolant, take out the air inlet duct and remove air filter housing. Then you have to take off the air conditioning compressor, and also the accumulator bracket and separate the heater hoses at the engine and at the starter. All models: take off the exhaust manifold heat shields, then take out the exhaust manifold mounting bolts and the manifold will come off the vehicle. Before sealing up flush and remove old gasket deposits on mating surfaces inspect manifold for distortion and cracks visually check for manfold warpage with a straight edge. Note: If this is not enough, one should not hesitate to carry the manifold to an automotive machine shop for resurfacing. Fit the exhaust manifold with a new gasket into position and tighten down the mounting bolts just enough to be finger tight. Then, just as previously, starting at the center and gradually moving toward the end, and then the same in the opposite direction, to the set torque, tighten the mounting bolts and also the bolts to fasten the heat shield. Replace the rest of the parts in the manner in opposite order to the extraction and in case of 4.7L right side exhaust manifold replace the coolant. Last, the engine should be run and blown exhaust can be checked between the manifold and cylinder head as well as the manifold and exhaust pipe.
