How do you install the rotor and oil pump components correctly on Chrysler Laser? Posted by Customer
    A:
Insert the rotor with the big chamfered surface to the side of the some pump body locating then the oil pressure relief valve spring. Subsequently, screw the pump cover and fasten the bolts up to the required torque. Pour a thin layer of RTV sealant on the pump you are going to join, then pull it down into place and turn it a little to make a sounding contact with the covering block. Before installing the pump in place, apply sealant to the threads of the retaining bolts, then tighten them in order to the prescribed torque and, when viewed through the distributor opening, the slot in the shaft of the oil pump should be aligned with the crankshaft. Lubricate a new O-ring which is then slipped into the oil pump pickup opening, the pickup must then be inserted into the pump followed by the bolts being tightened to the correct torque. For the 2.2 liter engines, fit and torque the brace bolt and in the same process torque the pickup brace bolt as well.

After the rotors have cooled down, measure the run-out of the rotor in relation to the shaft using a dial indicator and compare your results with the manufacture's specifications. Examine the outer rotor and take measurements at the outer edge to obtain the outer rotor-to-body clearance and then compare that with standard measurements. Checking on the warpage of the oil pump cover through feeler gauge and straight edge in order to meet the predetermined criteria. It will be important to measure the oil pressure relief valve spring to ensure that it has the correct length as per manufacturer's specifications.
