    Q:
How to disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and replace the oil pump assembly on Chrysler PT Cruiser? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loose the ground cable, suspend the vehicle with jack stands, and then dropped the oil pan as well as the pick-up tube/strainer. After that, take out the timing belt and the crankshaft sprocket and the oil pump assembly is also can be taken off the engine. If it cannot be turned off by hand, tap with a soft-faced hammer on the external section of the pump or pry on a casting boss of the pump. Pull of the mounting screws together with the cover, now you will have to take out both the inner and the outer rotor from the body; be extremely careful when handling these parts since very tight tolerances are applied to obtain the proper oil pressure; any misalignment that appears with these parts, therefore, entails replacement of the entire pump. If required, remove and replace the crankshaft front seal which is fitted inside the oil pump body. Clean all blocks' surfaces, and components, using the solvent, and check for extreme wear or damages before further use. Remove relief valve assembly and inspect the plunger sliding face and the valve spring; if worn or damaged, replace the two in a set. Place the grooved end of the relief valve back in first, and the parts should be coated in oil, reinstall the parts into the oil pump body and tighten the cap bolt to the right degree. The dimensions of the oil pump components should be checked with a micrometer and a feeler gauge and the values should be measured against the given standards. Coat the housing and both the internal and external rotors with clean engine oil and have the latter incorporated in the body before closing it with the cover and screws. Immerse the oil pump in clean engine oil, replace the O-ring in oil outlet channel with a new one, apply sealant on the body of the pump and then bolt the pump to the block using the required torque. The crankshaft sprocket and the timing belt must be fitted, with the pick-up tube/strainer assembly and the oil pan meeting with the crankshaft, integral sprocket. Last but not the least, fit a new oil filler and fill up fresh engine oil, switch on the engine and look for the pressure and signs of leakage and once again check the level of the engine oil.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall the oil pump assembly on Dodge Neon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before any operation of the removal of the oil pump assembly, connect the cable with the negative terminal from the battery and then lift the vehicle and place on jack stands. Go on to the oil pan and pick-up tube/strainer then take off the timing belt and crankshaft sprocket. Remove the centre bolts and remove the oil pump assembly from the crankshaft. If the pump does not come off easily loosen the remaining bolts and then gently tap or pry on a casting boss. Disconnect the mounting screws and the cover can be slid off; the inner and outer rotor requires removal from the body-be careful because erosive wearing is vital for oil pressure; otherwise, one has to replace the complete pump. Some applications require removal of the crankshaft to access the front seal within the oil pump body; if so, replace as necessary. It is recommended to clean all components with solvent, this makes the analysis and estimation of excessive wear or any damage easier. Remove the bolt and washer, and take off the spring and valve which is located in the head of the relief valve. Examine the piston sliding surface and the valve spring; both of these should set should be replaced as a set if they are worn. The grooved end of the valve must be placed first during reassembly, apply oil, and place back to the pump body then use the cap bolt and tighten. Make use of the micrometer and feeler gauge to gauge the clearance in the oil pump components. For installation one needs to lubricate the housing and the rotors with clean engine oil, fit both rotors and fasten the cover with the screws. Immerse the oil pump in clean engine oil and lubricate the O-ring located in the oil discharge passage, the oil pump body is then sealed and connected to the block using bolts to the required torque. If it is an interference engine install the crankshaft sprocket and timing belt, pick-up tube/strainer assembly and oil pan. Last, put a new oil filter and engine oil, start the vehicle, inspect for the oil pressure and leakage and, inspect the engine oil level again.
