- A:Disconnect the cable(s) from the negative battery terminal(s). Drain the cooling system. Remove the drivebelt and air filter housing. Disconnect the heater and radiator hoses. Remove the idler pulley and water pump mounting bolts. Detach the fan assembly and lower radiator hose. Clean the bolt threads and engine surfaces. Compare the new pump to the old one. Remove all traces of old gasket material. Clean the engine and water pump mating surfaces. Position the O-ring/gasket on the pump. Attach the pump and O-ring/gasket to the engine. Tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern. Turn the water pump by hand. Reinstall all parts removed. Refill the cooling system.
