    Q:
How to remove and install a starter motor on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Remove the middle engine splash shield. Secure the steering wheel so it doesn't rotate freely. On the 2.7L Charger and all 300 V6 models, remove the bolt that secures the intermediate steering shaft to the lower steering coupling shaft and separate the two shafts. On all 2011 and later V6 models, remove the intermediate shaft completely. Remove the left-side catalytic converter. On 3.6L models, remove the starter motor heat shield. On all models, remove the nut that secures the battery cable to the terminal stud on the starter solenoid, disconnect the cable from the terminal stud and disconnect the electrical connector from the spade terminal on the solenoid. Remove the starter mounting bolts and the electrical harness/oil cooler line clip. To remove the starter, pull it forward and down, work it up over the exhaust pipe, then work it past the disconnected steering shafts. Installation is the reverse of removal. For V8 engines, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the electronic power steering connector (if equipped) for additional access to the starter. Remove the starter heat shield (if equipped). Remove the starter motor mounting bolts. Move the starter motor assembly forward far enough for the pinion gear to clear the starter hole and the driveplate ring gear, then tilt the starter downward so that you can reach the electrical terminals on the solenoid. Disconnect the battery cable and electrical connector from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid and remove the starter motor. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How to Remove and Install a Starter Motor on a Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the lower splash shield and skid plates, if equipped. On 4WD models with certain transmissions, there's a support bracket between the front axle and the side of the transmission that blocks access to the lower starter mounting bolt. If your vehicle has this support bracket, remove the two support bracket bolts at the transmission, then pry the support bracket aside enough to gain access to the lower starter mounting bolt. Additionally, on some 4WD models the driveshaft will have to be detached from the front differential companion flange for access to the starter mounting bolts. Remove the heat shield, if equipped, from the starter motor. Remove the nut that secures the battery cable to the terminal stud on the starter solenoid, disconnect the cable from the terminal stud and disconnect the electrical connector from the spade terminal on the solenoid. Remove the two starter mounting bolts. Move the starter motor toward the front of the vehicle until the nose of the starter pinion housing clears the transmission bellhousing, then lift the nose down and, if you haven't already done so, lower the starter until you can disconnect the electrical connector and remove the nut that secures the battery cable to the terminal stud on the starter solenoid. Once everything is disconnected, remove the starter. Caution: The starter motor is fairly heavy, so be sure to support it while removing it. Do NOT allow it to hang by the wiring harness. Installation is the reverse of removal. For Hemi engines, loosen the lug nuts on the left front wheel. Raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel. Remove the splash shield from the left front wheel housing. Remove the starter heat shield and fasteners, if equipped. On some 4WD models with certain transmissions, there's a support bracket between the front axle and the side of the transmission that blocks access to the lower starter mounting bolt. If your vehicle has this support bracket, remove the two support bracket bolts at the transmission, then pry the support bracket aside enough to gain access to the lower starter mounting bolt. Disconnect the battery cable and electrical connector from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid. Remove the two starter motor mounting bolts and remove the starter motor assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
How do you install the starter motor for the 2018 Ram 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Installation is the reverse of removal for all engine types.

    Q:
How can you determine if the starter is receiving the correct voltage from the ignition switch for the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the starter does not activate when the ignition switch is turned to the start position, check for battery voltage to the starter solenoid. This will determine if the solenoid is receiving the correct voltage from the ignition switch. Connect a 12-volt test light or a voltmeter to the starter solenoid positive terminal. While an assistant turns the ignition switch to the start position, observe the test light or voltmeter. The test light should shine brightly or battery voltage should be indicated on the voltmeter.

    Q:
What should be done if the starter receives voltage but does not activate for the 2017 Ram 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove and bench test the starter motor assembly, checking the solenoid's functionality. If the pinion drive extends but does not rotate, the solenoid is operational but the starter motor is defective. If there is no movement but the solenoid clicks, both the solenoid and starter motor may be defective. If the solenoid plunger extends and rotates the pinion drive, the starter assembly is functioning correctly.
