    Remove lower instrument panel insulator. Rotate brake light switch 30 degrees counterclockwise and disconnect electrical connector. Pull plunger out, depress brake pedal, install switch in bracket, release pedal and pull up. Switch is now adjusted and installed.

    Detach the lower instrument panel insulator at the knee bolster side of the car on the driver side. This switch provides a signal to the electronic module through the SAE J1930 interface circuit when the brake pedal is depressed, and it is fixed to a bracket welded to the brake pedal. Compress the brake pedal and turn the switch 30 degrees in the anticlockwise direction and pull it out from the housing. Pull off the electrical connector of the brake light switch. There is a switch, which can be installed by pulling the plunger of the switch out as far as it will go. Press the brake pedal down as far as its possible and then fix the switch in its respective bracket in the way it was unstowed. Take your foot off the brake pedal and then apply some pressure upwards on the pedal to make sure that the brake has been released. Rsult only switch at this point is now fully adjusted and in place.

    Depress the brake pedal and hold it down. Rotate the switch to unlock, then pull it out. Unplug the switch and remove. Plug in the new switch and press the brake pedal. Align the tab and insert the switch, then turn it counterclockwise. Move the small lever to a horizontal position. Try the brakes and verify the switch is working.

    Disconnect the cable(s) from the negative battery terminal(s). The switch is mounted at the brake pedal, so disconnect the wiring from the switch. Hold the brake pedal down, then turn the switch slightly clockwise and pull it from its bracket. On early 2009 models, the switch must be replaced with a new one whenever it's removed. Let up the brake pedal. For early 2009 models, hold the brake pedal down and insert the new switch into its bracket until it's properly seated, then turn it counterclockwise to lock it in place. Let go of the brake pedal, but don't pull it up. Turn the plunger release lever clockwise until it snaps into place. Make sure the switch is seated properly before moving the lever. If an error is made, the switch will have to be discarded and replaced with a new one. Connect the wiring harness and the battery cable(s). For late 2009 and later models, verify that the switch plunger is completely extended. Hold the brake pedal down and install the switch into its bracket, seating it fully. Turn the switch clockwise to lock it in place. Let go of the brake pedal to allow the switch to adjust itself. Connect the wiring harness and the battery cable(s).
