    When replacing an alternator, bring the old one for comparison. Ensure the new unit matches the old in terms of terminals and identification numbers. You may need to switch the pulley from the old to the new unit. For 2.7L V6, 3.5L and 3.6L V6, and V8 engines, disconnect the battery and remove the drive belt and alternator. Installation is the reverse of removal and check the charging voltage to ensure correct operation.

    Disconnect battery cable(s) and drivebelt. For 3.6L/3.7L/4.7L, disconnect battery cable and field wire connector. Remove mounting bolts and alternator. For HEMI, disconnect field wire connector and remove nut securing battery cable. Unsnap plastic insulator cap and remove cable. For diesel, remove upper/lower mounting bolts/nuts, unsnap insulator cap, remove nut and cable. Installation is reverse of removal.

    Install the new alternator by tightening the mounting bolts. Put the drivebelt back on and check the charging voltage to confirm proper operation. For Hemi engines, follow similar steps but also disconnect the field wire electrical connector and remove the plastic insulator cap from the B+ output terminal. Remove the battery cable retaining nut and disconnect the battery cable. Remove the alternator mounting bolts and take out the alternator. When installing the new alternator, tighten the mounting bolts.
