Regarding the cylinder heads, this removal and installation technique focuses on leaving the camshaft(s) as it is and retaining the exhaust manifold(s). First of all, the intake manifold should be removed before taking off timing chains, sprockets and guides. Then we go under the front part of the car securely supporting it before unbolting exhaust pipes from exhaust manifolds. Any other things like coolant fittings, cables or brackets connected to a head must be detached after they are properly identified. The cylinder head bolts should be loosened in an opposite order to their tightening sequence so that warping or cracking will not develop. It is important that when lifting off the engine block, any external components should be taken away for complete cleansing and inspection; at this point also include any other attached parts such as hoses and wires. Lastly install timing chain guides, timing chains and timing sprockets while refilling cooling system change oil filter and add oil before starting engine for leaks of oil or coolant.

For installation, position the new head gasket over the dowels in the block, place the cylinder head over it without disturbing the gasket, and apply engine oil to the head bolt threads and underneath the bolt heads. Install the bolts in their original locations and tighten them following the recommended sequence to the specified torque.

Lift the heads off the engine using a block of wood or by striking a wood block with a hammer. Store the heads on blocks of wood.

Depending on the cylinder head, you may need to remove other components like the alternator, transmission and oil dipstick tube, air conditioning compressor, or heater core tube. Additionally, the timing chain cover should be removed, and the crankshaft should be rotated to Top Dead Center (TDC).
