To replace the timing cover oil seal first you do the following, Remove the vibration damper. After that, with the help of a special small sharp pointed tool, oil seal needs to be removed with a maximum of caution so as not to harm the sealing surface of the cover. Coat the new seal with engine oil and fit it into position thus forcing it into the timing cover until the outside face is compacted against the cover, replace the vibration damper. Crankshaft rear oil seal: Rubber seal modified by using split rubber instead of the original rope while for the camshaft rear oil seal use the rope type seal as used originally. First of all, it is necessary to remove the oil pan, as well as to take out the rear oil seal retainer and the rear main bearing cap. The lower rope seal can be removed by use of a small screwdriver; ensure that it is done gently. Than insert a long wood screw or sheet-metal-screw through one end of the upper seal and pull on the screw while an assistant turns the crankshaft to remove the seal. Scrub the surface of the crankshaft and smudge a small amount of engine oil to the surface. New seal should be lubricated before it being inserted, paint stripe should be facing the rear and Crankshaft should be moved in its right position. The other half of the seal and the bearing cap should be fitted after a bead of RTV-type sealant has been applied to the seal retainer. Fit the side seals into the seal retainer with a non-setting adhesive material preferably made from Dodge/Plymouth Part number 4057988 or an equivalent one. Last join the lower seal retainer with the RTV-type sealant on both sides and again replace the oil pan and fill it with the right type and measure of oil for the engine.

Use Chrysler tool no. C-4251-3 if available; otherwise, a piece of large diameter pipe or a socket and hammer can suffice, ensuring the pipe or socket matches the oil seal's outside diameter.
