    Q:
How do you disconnect and replace the knock sensor on Chrysler PT Cruiser? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. The knock sensor is threaded into the front side of the cylinder block, near the starter, so remove the battery for access. Detach the fuel injector harness electrical connector from its bracket without unplugging it. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor and unscrew the knock sensor using a deep socket. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the knock sensor to the specified torque.

    Q:
Where Are the Knock Sensors Located on a Dodge Nitro? Posted by Customer
    A:
There are two knock sensors located underneath the intake manifold - one on the left side and one on the right side of the engine block. The sensors send voltage signals to the PCM based on the intensity of the vibrations inside the cylinders. When cylinder knock ("pinging") is detected, the PCM will respond by retarding the ignition timing for all of the cylinders. The left and right knock sensors are different. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector located near the rear of the left valve cover. Remove the intake manifold. Remove the knock sensor mounting bolts and remove the sensors. Thoroughly clean the bolts and bolt holes. Install the knock sensors and tighten the mounting bolts to 15 ft-lbs (20 Nm). Do not apply sealant to the bolts. It is important to properly torque the mounting bolts to ensure proper knock sensor operation and accurate ignition timing control. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 4.0L engines, the single knock sensor is located in the valley between the cylinder heads. Relieve the fuel system pressure and drain the cooling system. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the upper intake manifold and lower intake manifold. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor. Remove the mounting bolt and detach the sensor from the engine block. Install the sensor and tighten the knock sensor bolt to 84 in-lbs. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Refill the cooling system.

    Q:
How do you replace the knock sensor on Dodge Neon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the negative battery cable and raise the vehicle, securing it on jackstands. The knock sensor is located on the engine block near the starter motor, with 2000 through 2002 models having it screwed into the block, while 2003 models have it bolted. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor, then for 2000 through 2002 models, unscrew the sensor using a deep socket, and for 2003 models, remove the retaining bolt. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to tighten the knock sensor for 2000 through 2002 models or the knock sensor bolt for 2003 models to the specified torque.

    Q:
How do you replace the knock sensors for the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the knock sensors, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector, which is located at the rear of the engine, behind the intake manifold. If you can't find the connector, wait until you have removed the intake manifold and locate the two knock sensors and trace their leads back to the common connector. Remove the intake manifold and then remove the knock sensor assembly by removing the mounting bolts. Make sure to clean the holes for the mounting bolts before installing the new knock sensor assembly. For 3.7L V6 engines, note that the left knock sensor is identified by an identification tag and has a larger mounting bolt. Do not install the left knock sensor in the right sensor mounting position and vice versa, as it will confuse the PCM and cause a Diagnostic Trouble Code. Installation is the reverse of removal, making sure to tighten the knock sensor mounting bolts to the common connector.
