Drive the vehicle to an alignment shop to have the front end alignment checked, and if necessary, adjusted.

Secure the steering knuckle safely aside.

Mount the strut clevis bracket portion of the strut assembly in a vise and mark the components for reassembly. Then, install the spring compressor on the spring and compress it sufficiently to relieve all pressure from the upper mount. While holding the damper shaft from turning, loosen the shaft nut with a socket. Remove the nut and upper mount. Inspect the pivot bearing for smooth operation. Carefully lift the compressed spring from the assembly. Remove the dust boot from the damper shaft. Slide the rubber bumper off the damper shaft. Check the lower spring isolator for cracking and hardness; replace it if necessary.

Remove the lower shock absorber bolt (Shock absorber mounting bolts).

Raise the jack just enough to support the weight of the axle.

Spring compressors are available on a daily rental basis at most auto parts stores or equipment rental yards.

Mount the strut assembly in a vise, line the vise jaws with wood or rags, and don't tighten the vise excessively.

Disconnect the air line fitting and unplug the electrical connectors for the height sensor and solenoid. Then vent the air from the system.

Check for breakage, nicks, and cracks. Replace the springs if needed.
