    Q:
How to replace the clutch master cylinder assembly on Dodge Neon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Models manufactured in 2003 have a complete clutch master cylinder hydraulic line and release cylinder assembly. In case the clutch master cylinder is worn out, then the whole assembly has to be replaced at one go; this is a sealed system that does not usually have to be bled. Start by unbolting the cable out of the negative battery terminal and then unbolting the air filter housing. In the passenger compartment, pull off the knee bolster, and then unlock the clip which fastens the master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal and slide the pushrod off the clutch pedal pin with reference to the state of the plastic retainer and replacing it if it is faulty. Then, it will be necessary to unbolt the clip that connects the brake booster with a push rod of the brake pedal, and unscrew the nuts of the brake booster mount; on some variants, the bolts of the Power Distribution Center bracket can be loose and the assembly can be shifted aside. Slide the brake booster forward to get space for the clutch master cylinder then remove the mounting nuts on the firewall and lift the vehicle safely on stands. On the 2001 and 2002 models, uninstall the hydraulic line between the release cylinder and the master cylinder using a special tool; remove the bolts that hold the clutch master cylinder and the fluid reservoir to the firewall being very careful not to harm the hydraulic line while removing the accessories from the engine bay. For 2003 models, first, you must take out the screws that hold the clutch release cylinder, the hydraulic line holder, and the screws that hold the clutch master cylinder and the fluid reservoir to the firewall; be very careful when handling the hydraulic line. Additional clearance may be required; the ABS module mounting bolts should then be undone and the ABS module moved to a side but should not be disconnected. Installation includes passing the clutch master cylinder through the firewall and fastening it loosely, before connecting the master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal pin and use of a new clip. For 2001 and 2002 models, this fitting connects the master cylinder hydraulic line to the release cylinder quick-connect fitting where a click can be heard. For 2003 models channel the release cylinder mounting bolts as well as the hydraulic line mounting bracket. The rest of the installation procedure is the opposite of the removal and tightening all the mounting fasteners to the required tightness is done. However, if the clutch hydraulic system needs to be bled, wash off the brake fluid with water being careful not to wet the paint finish.
