    Start by disconnecting the battery cable from the negative terminal. Remove the drivebelt and raise the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Unsnap the plastic insulator cap from the B+ output terminal and remove the battery cable retaining nut from the B- output terminal. Disconnect the battery cable from the B+ output terminal and the field wire electrical connector from the field terminal. Working underneath the engine, remove the alternator support bracket nut and bolt, and then remove the support bracket. Remove the upper and lower mounting bolts to take out the alternator. Reverse the steps for installation and check the charging voltage.

    To replace the alternator in a vehicle with 3.5L or 3.6L V6 engines: Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the drive belt. On 3.5L engines, remove the upper mounting bolt and support bracket bolt, and remove the support bracket. On 3.6L engines, detach the B+ cable and electrical connector, then unscrew the upper mounting bolts. Raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the middle engine splash shield. On 3.5L models, disconnect the battery cable from the B+ output terminal and the field wire electrical connector. Remove the lower alternator mounting bolt(s) and remove the alternator. Installation is the reverse of removal. After installation, check the charging voltage to verify that the alternator is operating correctly.
