The release bearing is a ball bearing, grease sealed type that should be renewed when the other clutch components are being serviced. Signs of grease leakage or noise when spun with the fingers may indicate deterioration of the bearing. To remove the release bearing, extract the retaining spring clips. The release fork and cross-shaft can be dismantled by driving out the spring pins, noting the location of spring ends and felt packings. When refitting the release bearing clips, ensure that the ends pass through the holes in the bearing into the arms of the release fork, with the hoops of the spring clip engaging in the bearing groove.
