    Q:
How do you release the alternator mounting and adjuster link bolts, and How to replace the timing belt on Dodge Colt? Posted by Customer
    A:
Release the alternator mounting and adjuster link bolts, push the alternator towards the engine, and slip the drivebelt from the pulleys. Unscrew the four small bolts to remove the crankshaft pulley, then unbolt and remove the water pump pulley and fan blades. Remove the upper and lower sections of the timing belt cover. Use a ring spanner on the crankshaft sprocket bolt and turn the crankshaft until No 1 piston is at TDC on its compression stroke, indicated by the alignment of the roll pin in the crankshaft sprocket with the mark on the engine front casing and the dimple on the camshaft sprocket at its highest point aligned with the mark on the belt cover backing plate. Release the belt tensioner mounting pivot bolt and pinch nut, push the tensioner against the spring tension, and tighten the pinch nut. With the tension released, slide the timing belt from the sprockets, ensuring its running direction is marked for refitting. To fit a new belt, first check that the crankshaft sprocket and camshaft marks are aligned as originally. Engage the belt with the crankshaft sprocket, then around the oil pump sprocket, and finally around the camshaft sprocket, keeping it taut between the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys. Release the belt tensioner to apply tension to the belt, gently pushing the tensioner against its spring tension to settle the belt teeth in mesh with the sprocket grooves, then release the tensioner and tighten the pinch nut followed by the mounting bolt. Fit the crankshaft pulley to retain the belt on the sprocket while turning the crankshaft in the next operation. Use a spanner on the crankshaft pulley center bolt to turn the crankshaft one complete turn in the normal engine running direction. Release the tensioner bolt and nut, then retighten the nut followed by the bolt in that order, ensuring the bolt is correctly tensioned, which can be checked by applying pressure from the thumb; the distance between the belt and the joint of the belt cover and backing plate should be 0.47 in (12.0 mm). Remove the crankshaft pulley again to fit the belt cover, then fit the pulley again along with the water pump pulley and fan blades. Finally, fit the drivebelt and tension it.

    Q:
How do you apply tension to the timing belt for the 1988 Dodge Colt? Posted by Customer
    A:
Release the tensioner nut to apply tension to the belt, pushing the tensioner lightly towards the adjuster nut to ensure full engagement of the belt teeth with the sprockets, then tighten the tensioner nut followed by the bolt.

    Q:
What should be done after pulling off the pulley for the 1990 Dodge Colt? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the timing belt from the crankshaft sprocket, marking it for direction of running and tooth alignment if it is to be reused.

    Q:
Why is it important to mark the timing belt before removal for the 1992 Dodge Colt? Posted by Customer
    A:
Moving the position of the timing belt can lead to increased wear and extra noise due to run-in.
