    Q:
How do you remove and install the shift cable on Chrysler Town & Country? Posted by Customer
    A:
To uninstall the shift cable, a car owner should lift the hood and cover the left fender with a blanket to avoid the scratches. Subsequently, you should pull out the cruise control actuator but do not cut the cables while doing so. Then, remove the battery and the battery tray which is located in the rear of the SMT component. Shift cable-first in the engine compartment, remove the shift cable from the shift lever by using the trim panel tool or flat bladed screw driver, again, second, loosen up the cable from the bracket by merely pulling the two black tabs and then removing the cable through the slot. The process still continues inside the vehicle in which the lower trim panel and knee bolster must be detached. Behind the steering column, unbolt the shift cable from the gear shift lever stud, and right from the steering column bracket, by using a screwdriver to pry open the housing and pushing the tabs and slipping the cable through. Partially open the panel by unclipping the grommet in the opening near the rear part of the engine compartment; pull out and disconnect the cable on the passengers' side. To install, insert the shift cable through the panel opening into the engine compartment and fit the largest end with clip on the shift lever stud; make sure it is securely seated Then engage the cable bracket and shift lever. The remaining part of the installation is done in the reverse procedure of the removal, then fine-tune the shift cable by parking the vehicle on the flat ground and engaging the parking lock. Insert the shift lever into gear and turn the key in the ignition to the off position. Release the lock plug of the shift cable adjustment screw at the transaxle shift lever, with the shift lever at the transaxle being in Park and the parking pawl engaged. Retighten the adjustment screw and see that the shift lever moves smoothly; the engine should start only in 'P' or 'N' positions. Last but not the least, change the gear shift lever of the transaxle through all the gears in order to check if all the cables are in good order and in case of any problem, then adjust the same.

    Q:
How do you check and adjust Shift Cable on Dodge Grand Caravan? Posted by Customer
    A:
Confirm transaxle operation through each shift lever position by attempting the engine start mode with each shift lever position; the starter engages only in the Park and Neutral positions. To adjust, shift the lever to Park and, with the vehicle shifted to the engine compartment, loosen the shift cable clamp bolt on the transaxle bracket. Draw the shift lever fully to the front stopping at the park position with hand and hold while tightening the cable clamp bolt. Last, ensure that shift lever is within lever stops in the Neutral and Drive position and ensuring that the lever must be in park or Neutral before the engine starts.
