During normal engine operation, the Evaporative Emissions Control System draws fuel vapors from the gas tank and fuel system, stores them in a charcoal canister and routes them to the intake manifold. An indication of malfunctioning in this system is when there is a strong smell of fuel on the engine compartment. In case of detection of the smell of fuel, you should check whether or not there is any damage or deterioration in the canister and all hoses connected to it. To inspect for damages and deteriorations, we need to probe into charcoal canister in engine compartment located on passenger's side behind headlamp.

A strong fuel odor in the engine compartment or raw fuel leaking from the canister are common symptoms of a fault in the system, especially in hot temperatures.
