    Q:
How to Remove and Install a Master Cylinder on Chrysler 200? Posted by Customer
    A:
Brake fluid can damage paint, so it is important to cover all body parts and be cautious not to spill any fluid during the removal and installation procedures. If any fluid is spilled, it should be immediately wiped up and the area should be thoroughly flushed with water. To begin the removal process, disconnect the negative battery cable and pump the brake pedal multiple times to relieve the vacuum reserve in the power brake booster. Use a syringe or equivalent tool to siphon the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder reservoir and dispose of it properly. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch connector and move the harness out of the way. Place rags under the fluid fittings and have caps or plastic bags ready to cover the ends of the lines once they are disconnected. Loosen the fittings at the ends of the brake lines and quickly plug the ends to prevent contamination. Clean the area where the brake master cylinder mounts to the power booster and remove the nuts attaching the brake master cylinder. Carefully pull the brake master cylinder off the studs and out of the engine compartment, being cautious not to spill any fluid. If necessary, disengage the retaining tabs holding the reservoir and transfer it to the new brake master cylinder. Before installing the new brake master cylinder, it should be bench bled. Mount the brake master cylinder in a vise and attach a pair of bleeder tubes to the outlet ports. Fill the reservoir with the recommended brake fluid and slowly push the pistons into the brake master cylinder to expel air. Repeat this process until no more air bubbles are present. Remove the bleed tubes and install plugs in the open ports. Install a new vacuum seal onto the brake master cylinder and then install the brake master cylinder over the studs on the power brake booster. Tighten the attaching nuts finger tight. Carefully thread the brake line fittings into the brake master cylinder, ensuring not to strip the threads. Fully tighten the mounting nuts and brake line fittings. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with fluid and bleed the brake master cylinder and brake system. Test the operation of the brake system before placing the vehicle into normal service.
