To remove the differential, first raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Drain the lubricant from the differential, then disconnect the driveshaft from the rear differential and remove the rear exhaust pipe and muffler. Pry the inner CV joint out of the differential just enough to release the snap-ring, noting that the driveaxles cannot be removed until the differential is lowered. Support the differential with a floor jack, remove the mounting fasteners attaching it to the rear crossmember, and lower the differential to separate the driveaxles. Carefully lower the differential and remove it from under the vehicle. With the differential removed, it is a good time to check or replace the rubber mounts for the differential mounting brackets or the rear crossmember. For installation, place the differential on the jack head and position it directly underneath the mounting bracket and crossmember. Raise the differential enough to install the driveaxles, then raise it into position and install the rear mounting fasteners loosely before installing the front mounting fastener and tightening all to the specified torque. Install the driveshaft, fill the differential with the appropriate lubricant, install the wheels, remove the jack, and lower the vehicle to the ground, ensuring to tighten the wheel lug nuts to the specified torque.
