Whenever the disc pads are inspected for wear, it is important to also check the surface of the disc for deep grooving, noting that light scoring is normal. If the disc is suspected of being buckled or out of true, it should be measured for run-out using a dial gauge; if unavailable, feeler blades can be used between the face of the disc and a fixed point while turning the disc. If the run-out exceeds the specified limit, the disc must be renewed. In cases where the disc is badly grooved or has worn thinner than the minimum thickness, it should be removed and replaced. To remove a disc, first prise out the cap from the center of the roadwheel and release the driveshaft to hub nut, which is very tight and requires a socket and long knuckle bar. Next, jack up the front of the car and remove the roadwheel. Unbolt the caliper, slide it from the disc, and tie it up out of the way without disconnecting the hydraulic hose. Unscrew and remove the previously loosened driveshaft nut and disconnect the driveshaft from the hub carrier. Using a plastic faced hammer, tap the hub out of the hub carrier, ensuring that any bearing pre-load spacers are retained and their exact location recorded. Grip the hub in a vice fitted with jaw protectors and unscrew and remove the disc retaining bolts to separate the hub and disc. Reassembly involves reversing the dismantling process while ensuring all bolts are tightened to the specified torque, with the driveshaft nut tightened and staked after lowering the car onto its roadwheels.
