However, to remove and replace the evaporator in this kind of a model is not an easy thing for those who are technically challenged. This process includes releasing the refrigerant gas from the AC system, disconnecting the passenger airbag system and dealing with several wiring connectors through under dashboard just like removing complete instrument panel assembly. The air conditioning evaporator is enclosed in a two-piece housing which must be removed from beneath the dashboard and then split into two halves. However, expansion valve can be replaced without necessarily removing the evaporator core from vehicle or if required removed together with it. In order to take out the expansion valve you first need to have your system discharged, unfasten the negative battery cable, as well as remove security clips off the refrigerant line quick connect fittings. Subsequently, undo retainer bolts/ screws to separate expansion valve from evaporator unit. To install-start by fitting new o-ring seals on expansion valve lube them with r-134a compatible refrigerant oil before installation; then take vehicle to shop where will evacuate & recharge & leak test system. Similarly for removal of evaporator core first discharge it's system then also disconnect negative battery terminal. At that point flush cooling water out while blocking off water tube connections at heater core end points .Afterward take apart air distribution assembly; pull out electrical harnesses joining wires onto them; unbolt ac/heater box & carefully lift it out of vehicle interior space. Remove the evaporator probe, recirculating door inlet cover, clips retaining the housing sections together, and the evaporator tube inlet seal.To remove the evaporator core from its housing, finally remove it out. On installation- at last, reverse steps of disassembly using a new gasket on expansion valve as well as reinstalling the temperature sensor from old core into the new one plus when installing a new evaporator adds one ounce of fresh r-134a compatible refrigerant oil. Take it to a shop and have the system evacuated, recharged and leak tested.
