Caution is essential when working on any part of the fuel system, as gasoline is extremely flammable; therefore, extra safety precautions must be observed. Most fuel filters on Dodge/Plymouth utility vehicles are located in-line between the fuel pump and carburetor, with some exceptions found in early models between the fuel pump and fuel tank. This job should be performed with the engine cold, after it has sat for at least three hours, using only pliers for the filter hose clamps, along with a replacement filter that is correct for the specific vehicle and engine, and some clean rags. Begin by removing the clamps from the fuel lines and pulling the filter free, then install the new filter in the same position as the old one, pushing the fuel hoses into place and securing them with the clamps. Finally, start the engine and check for fuel leaks at the filter connections.
