    Q:
What is the function and replacement process of the turn signal hazard flasher located behind the multi-function switch in the steering column on Chrysler Cirrus? Posted by Customer
    A:
The turn signal hazard flasher is a small unit which can be found behind the multi-function switch mounted inside the steering column. It produces a clicking noise during operation and if it is non-functioning or a turn signal circuit is only partially complete, the flasher speed is accelerated. If nowhere does the turn signal blink, the possible problems could include a blown fuse, a bad flasher unit, or a bad switch, or loose connection. One should check the fuse rapidly in the box and if that one, which is used for turn signal is faulty then one should check the wiring for any short and then replace the fuse. If the fuse is good, the turn signal light bulbs should be replaced and the operation of the bulbs should be checked by hooking the bulbs to a 12 volt battery. If the bulbs are functioning, then, the turn signal section of the multi-function switch as well as the wiring harness should be tested for continuity. To replace the flasher the steering wheel column covers must be taken off to get to turn signal/hazard combo flasher sits behind the multi-function switch. Each of these elements is described further below The flasher unit can be drawn out of the multi-function switch if needed. To guarantee that the replacement flasher unit will not be different in any way, it recommended to compare the two units to be installed. The new flasher unit should be inserted into the multi-function switch and make sure it can seat properly and the cover of the steering wheel column should be attached again.

    Q:
What are the common issues and replacement steps for a turn signal and hazard flasher unit on Dodge Neon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The turn signal and the hazard flasher knob is a single combination unit and if it is working fine, it makes a clicking sound. If further one turn signal fails and the clicker does not click or if while making regular turn signals, one of the bulbs flashes much faster while the other does not light at all, very high probability the turn signal bulbs are at fault. That is why if both of the turn signals do not blink, it may be a fuse, a flasher unit, a turn signal switch or some other turn signal related part that is bad. One can get to the fuse box and discover a problem; a bad turn signal fuse should be checked for a short before replacing it. To remove the flasher, the upper steering column cover must be removed, then the electrical connector should be disconnected and the flasher unit should be pulled out of the mounting bracket which is on the top of the steering column behind the multi-function switch. Make sure that the taking out unit is a perfect match of the unit being replaced prior to installation as is the process in the reverse order of removal.
