    Q:
How to remove and install a cylinder head in 2.7L V6 engine on Dodge Charger? Posted by Customer
    A:
Just before starting, make sure the engine is completely cold. To begin removing the above, be careful not to move crankshaft position alignment marks and remove primary timing chain and sprockets. Proceed by taking camshafts off from cylinder head, then remove rocker arms and hydraulic lash adjusters and label them for reinstalling on the same valves they were removed from. Remove the lower intake manifold as well as any exhaust manifold(s), labeling and removing other components still attached to the cylinder head. Unscrew evenly all head bolts by turning each one One-quarter turn at a time until you reach break away torque so as to avoid warping or cracking the heads. Lift out the cylinder head with exhaust manifold still attached, prying it up at trans end just beyond the gasket surface if stuck. For thorough cleaning of a cylinder head before taking it to an automotive machine shop apply this procedure; send it to an automotive machine shop after stripping all external components from a cylinder head. Ensure that mating surfaces of a block and a cylinder head are spotlessly clean before installation. Carbon and old gaskets can be scraped off using a gasket scraper; wipe surfaces with lacquer thinner or acetone knowing oil should not be present thereon when mating takes place. Examine both block and head surfaces for damage, tap threads in head bolt holes, check each bolt for stretching on every cylinder-head bolt hole size plays a significant role in determining proper clamp load during assembly process after re-tapping each of them . Check the flatness of this component using a straightedge or feeler gauge . Reinstall any parts taken off the top end, correctly place new cylinder-head gasket over dowel pins in block's deck surface retaining its position while lowering it onto dowels without pushing down on this seal . Lubricate head bolt threads and hardened washers with clean engine oil, following tightening sequence on torque-to-yield bolts; reinstall lash adjusters, rocker arms, camshafts, primary timing chain and sprockets . Finally when you are through with all the above procedures refill your cooling system, change engine oil and filter before starting it up then observe for coolant or oil leaks.

    Q:
How to remove the cylinder heads with the camshaft and exhaust manifold still attached in 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8 engine on Dodge Durango? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to detach the cylinder heads with the camshaft(s) and the exhaust manifold(s) it is necessary to go through several steps. Start with the intake manifold, the timing chains, sprockets as well as the guides. It's safer to jack up the front of the car and support it by stands and then the exhaust piping can be removed from the manifolds. Identify any of the cylinder head related component like coolant fittings, ground straps, cables, hoses, wires and brackets if any and then uninstall it. To remove these bolts, you will use a breaker bar and the correct size of socket; turn the bolts in a 1/4 turn and then reverse the sequence to avoid warping or cracking of the cylinder head. Remove the cylinder head with the camshaft and exhaust manifold installed lifting it gently where you may need to use pry bar. Disconnect all the accessories mounted on the head so as to bring out the cleaning and inspection session effectively. When fitting, the surfaces of the cylinder head and block must be free from any marks such as carbon or old gasket marks, and remove these using a gasket scraper and clean with acetone or lacquer thinner. Inspect the interfacial areas and decide whether a file is enough or a machining process for several damages is necessary. In the head bolt holes chase the threads with a tap and clean them with compressed air. Using a straight edge check each of the cylinder head bolt for stretch and replace as required. Examine the cylinder head for warpage and examine the head gasket, intake manifold as well as the exhaust manifold. Replace any taken out from the head components, align the new cylinder head gasket into the dowels and put the head back without interfering with the gasket. In addition to this when tightening up the M10 head bolts, the chamfers of which should face the bolt heads, clean engine oil should be applied to the threads and hardened washers of the M10 head bolts but on the MB head bolts, thread sealant shoult be applied. Place the bolts back in their respective positions and torque them until just snug with fingers, and then when tightening the flange to head proceed with right and left sequence for torque and rotational angle. Remove, replace and or adjust the timing chain guides, chains, and sprockets sometimes just takes out and reinserts, fill up cooling system and refill the engine oil and filter it. Last, begin checking for oil and coolant leaks with the engine running.

    Q:
How to remove the cylinder heads in V8 engine on Dodge Magnum? Posted by Customer
    A:
Depressurize the fuel system and remove the battery to take off the cylinder heads. Empty the cooling system and get rid of intake manifold, exhaust manifold(s), valve covers, rocker arms and push rods. Unfasten head bolts according to a particular manner and unscrew them manually. Detach heads from an engine by using a wooden block or hitting wood with a hammer. The heads should be protected from damaging the gasket sealing surfaces by putting them on blocks of wood. When installing, ensure that mating faces are clean and clear of any dirt particles or debris. Gasket scraper can be used to clean up these faces as well as lacquer thinner or acetone. Finally check for damage, use emery cloth or machine if necessary; chase threads in head bolt holes and clean bolt threads too. Position new gaskets properly in block dowels. Carefully lay heads on top of block without disturbing gaskets.Coat head bolt threads with engine oil before inserting bolts back into their original positions; tighten in recommended sequence following torque specification in several steps.Complete remaining installation steps in reverse order. Finally, start the engine, check for proper operation and leaks, add coolant/ change oil plus filler.
