Using a breaker bar and the appropriate sized socket, loosen the cylinder head bolts in 1/4-turn increments until they can be removed by hand, following the reverse order of the lightening sequence to avoid warping or cracking the head.

Inspect and service the cylinder head as needed.

Complete the installation by reversing the removal steps, adding coolant, and changing the engine oil and filter before starting the engine to check for proper operation and any leaks.

Remove the camshaft thrust plate from the rear of the head and slide the camshaft back approximately 3 - 1/2 inches to allow for the removal of the sprocket and bolt.

After removing the cylinder head, it should be inspected and serviced as necessary. Any damage should be addressed during this phase.

Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the turbocharger, remove the viscous fan and drive assembly, and raise the engine with support or a hoist. Remove the right engine mount through-bolt and the engine mount itself. Disconnect the turbo oil drain fitting and seal the openings. Disconnect the air intake temperature sensor wiring, remove the air filter housing and snorkel, and tape the open turbo port. Disconnect heater hoses, oil supply line, and coolant lines from the turbocharger, sealing the openings. Remove the EGR cooler, exhaust manifold with the turbo attached, fan and shroud assembly, and the drive belt. Lower the alternator, disconnect the upper radiator hose, and label and disconnect all wiring attached to the cylinder head. Remove the engine oil dipstick tube bolt, air intake housing, pump-to-fuel rail line, fuel rail-to-head lines, and fuel line shield. Remove the fuel injectors and rocker housing.

The cylinder head, with the camshaft in place and the exhaust manifold attached, should be carefully lifted off the engine block, and any external components should be removed for thorough cleaning and inspection.

Loosen the head bolts in increments and remove them by hand.

When installing the cylinder head, ensure that the mating surfaces are clean and free of debris. Place the new gasket over the dowel pins and carefully position the cylinder head on the engine block.

All additional components attached to the cylinder head, such as coolant fittings, ground straps, cables, hoses, wires, or brackets, should be labeled and removed.

Clean the block and head mating surfaces thoroughly, checking for nicks and scratches. Check for warpage using a straightedge and feeler gauge. Clean the injector nozzle seats and the block deck surface, ensuring it's within specified limits. Chase the threads in the head bolt holes with a tap and die, and measure the head bolt lengths. If the bolts are stretched beyond the allowable length, replace them.

Before starting, disconnect the batteries' negative terminals and drain the coolant.

Complete the remaining installation steps in reverse order. Finally, add coolant, change the engine oil and filter, and start the engine to check for proper operation and leaks.

Before removing the cylinder head, it's important to relieve the fuel system pressure, disconnect the battery, and drain the engine oil and coolant. Additionally, remove the drivebelt, idler pulleys, air filter housing, and intake manifolds.

Take off the valve covers, rocker arms, and pushrods.
