    Q:
How do you disconnect the negative cable at the battery and remove the lock cylinder on Chrysler Laser? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the negative cable of the battery you decide to work on and then lay the terminal away in some fashion so that you cannot inadvertently make contact with it. On both 1984 and 1985 models you have to remove the steering wheel, turn signal/hazard warning switch assembly, four screws, and a snap ring in order to get at the upper shaft bearing and housing. Pinch off the lock plate and the spring, unscrew the wiring connector of the ignition key buzzer switch, as for the steering, take out the screws of the lock bell crank mechanism. Pull the lock cylinder as far back and to the right that you can and take the key out and turn the cylinder to the Lock position use a screwdriver on the two holes while pulling out on the lock cylinder. To fit it properly, there is the lock cylinder which should be assembled and inserted with the lock lever spring leg positioned in the lock casting notch, then there is the actuator rod that should be fitted to the lock housing, bellcrank should also be fitted and ultimately there are the retaining screws. Push down the lock cylinder housing to come in contact with the switch actuator, insert the key and push it in; turn the cylinder clockwise until it is locked. The key buzzer connector is inserted, and the lock plate/spring fixed before the upper bearing housing, screws, and snap-ring are inserted and the turn signal and hazard warning switches installed before the steering wheel is put in. For 1986 models it is necessary to detach upper and lower steering column covers, to pull out the lock cylinder plunger and with the key withdrawn, to pull out the lock cylinder using an appropriated tool. To install; slide the lock cylinder until it becomes locked in the housing and then fix the lock cylinder plunger in its place. Last of all, connect the negative battery cable.
