The fuel pump module assemblies features the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, filtering inlet strainer and the fuel level sensor. First, to ensure that it stays full, top up the fuel tank and work inside the trunk where the mat is near left shock tower to remove the fuel pump wiring harness 4-pin connector. Clip an ohmmeter to the fuel level sensor terminals and check for resistance within the manufacturer's specifications; if it is under the requirement, replace the fuel level sensor. After using the vehicle up to the extent that the fuel tank would be nearly empty or pumping it into a suitable container, check the resistance once more, and if the unit is out of tolerance, replace it. If you wish to carry out a more detailed check, then the fuel pump module should be removed, the sensor should be measured with the float arm in the FULL position, and the sensor should be replaced if the resistance is less than the specified value. Next, adjust the float arm to the EMPTY position observing a smooth ohmmeter reading change; if not replace the unit. The fuel pressure relief procedure and removing the fuel level sensor or fuel pump electrical connector from the area of the module flange should be done before replacement. Pull the blue locking wedge out with needle-nose and pull up the connector locking finger to unlock the terminals from the module electrical connector and then pull it out. If necessary, it is required to use an automotive factory tool to take out the terminals. To have the sensor removed, push it down with a screwdriver a little and take the sensor wires through the module hole. To install, the wires need to be inserted into the guide groove at the back of the sensor, and pass through the cavity of the module before screwing the sensor up the channel, which will lock into position. Insert the terminals into the module connector, lay the blue locking wedge, check the proper mode of connection pulling the wires and finally engage the fuel level sensor /fuel pump electrical connector on the flange of the module, the rest procedures should be carried out back to front.
