The auxiliary fuel pump module is located in the right side of the fuel tank and includes the main fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator.

Begin by removing the module. Detach the fuel level sensor from the fuel filter module by spreading the four locking tangs and pulling off the sensor. Cut the two wire ties that secure the wiring to the fuel return lines and disconnect the ground wires from the fuel filter module. Remove the fuel level sensor. If you're only replacing the fuel pressure regulator, you can stop here. To remove the fuel pressure regulator from the fuel filter module, pry off the retaining clip. Inspect the condition of the fuel pressure regulator O-rings. If you're replacing the fuel filter module, remove the ground ring from the recess for the fuel pressure regulator. When installing the ground ring in the new fuel filter module, ensure that the ground ring terminal is seated correctly in the notch. After installation, turn the ignition switch to On to activate the fuel pump and check for fuel leakage.

To remove and install the module, the entire assembly must be replaced as none of the components can be replaced individually. Start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the fuel tank and clean the area around the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit to prevent dirt from entering the tank. Mark the position of the arrow on the fuel pump module for proper installation. Use pliers or a hammer and brass drift to loosen and unscrew the lock-ring, and carefully remove the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module from the tank. Inspect the large rubber gasket sealing the mounting hole and replace if damaged. When installing the module, align the embossed arrow properly. The installation process is the reverse of removal.

To perform a fuel pressure check, relieve the fuel system pressure and connect a fuel pressure gauge to the Schrader valve test port on the injector fuel rail. Start the engine and check the pressure on the gauge. If the fuel pressure is not within specifications, check for restrictions in the fuel system or replace the fuel pump module.
