To perform a fuel pressure test, relieve the fuel system pressure and connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel supply line. Start the engine and check the pressure on the gauge. If the pressure is not within specifications, check for a restriction in the fuel system or replace the fuel pressure regulator.

Cut the two wire ties that secure the wiring to the fuel return lines and disconnect the ground wires from the fuel filter module. Remove the fuel level sensor. If you're only replacing the fuel pressure regulator, you can stop here. To remove the fuel pressure regulator from the fuel filter module, pry off the retaining clip. Inspect the condition of the fuel pressure regulator O-rings. If you're replacing the fuel filter module, remove the ground ring from the recess for the fuel pressure regulator. When installing the ground ring in the new fuel filter module, ensure that the ground ring terminal is seated correctly in the notch. After installation, turn the ignition switch to On to activate the fuel pump and check for fuel leakage.

To drain the fuel tank to under 5/8-full:Route a hose through the fuel filler neck hose.Use a hard nylon tube with a 30-degree cut on the end to push open the check valve in the fuel filler neck.
