You need an approved ignition control module tester to test the ignition control modules used. Without this equipment, module testing is beyond the scope of the home mechanic. If you have access to the necessary tool, the instructions for testing the module are provided by the manufacturer. For V6 models, detach the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the distributor cap and rotor. Remove the two control module attaching screws and lift the module up. Detach the pickup coil wire connector from the module, noting the wire colors. Disconnect the wire harness connector. If you will be reinstalling the old module, don't wipe the grease from the module or the distributor base. If you install a new module, spread the included silicone dielectric compound on the metal face of the module and on the distributor base where the module seats. For inline six-cylinder models, remove the ignition coil. Remove the two screws that attach the module to the coil frame. Pull off the module. Installation is the reverse of removal.

To replace the ignition control module in six-cylinder models, you need to disconnect the electrical connectors from the module, remove the mounting screws, and remove the module from the firewall. Installation is the reverse of removal.
