How do you remove and install the engine oil pan in 3.5L V6 engine on Dodge Challenger? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the engine oil pan one has to disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and then pull the engine oil dipstick. Lift with the hydraulic jack up the front of the vehicle and place it on jackstands then engage the parking brake and block the rear wheels. Attach the engine hoist and lift the engine and then unbolt the engine splash shield. Remove all the engine oil and take out the oil filter, dismantle the engine oil cooler and put it aside. Loosen the coupling that connects the steering intermediate shaft with to the steering gear as well as the mounting bolts of the steering gear to the subframe without severing the power steering fluid hoses and suspend the assembly to the side. The torque converter access cover and the two allen head bolts which hold the rear of the oil pan to the block should be removed and then the oil pan to transmission bolts. Unscrew the engine mount nuts on the subframe and then by tapping around the oil pan which is attached to the block do not pry do not pry and use a wooden or rubber clad hammer to break the gasket. Lift engine with hoist only high enough to remove the oil pan, and ease the pan out from between the engine and the subframe. Installation require clean of the pan, removal of all sealant and gasket material on block and pan mating surfaces, the bolt holes in the block to be clear and the oil pan flange to be free from distortion. Use RTV sealant along the parting lines between the block and the housing of the oil pump and fit gasket on the block. Put the oil pan to the right place on the block and place the bolts as they are to be tightened just enough to fit the finger. Lower and install the engine and put on the engine mount nuts and tighten to the mentioned torque. Screw the oil pan-to-transmission bolts and tighten to around 12 in-lbs, then tighten the oil pan fasteners in a criss-cross manner with the final torque in 3 stages: do not forget the two small Allen bolts at the rear. Perform the following steps: To the oil pan to transmission bolts torque, tighten to the following torque and install the torque converter access cover. Last but not the least, add the oil back in the engine, fit the filter, start the engine and let it fully warm up and check for any leakage.
