Avoid touching the new bearing inserts with fingers to prevent contamination. Clean the back side of the new upper bearing insert and place it in the connecting rod, ensuring the tab fits into the recess without hammering it in.

Check the ring end gaps and ensure the piston ring side clearance is correct.
