Replacement A/C Accumulator units are highly effective at absorbing moisture and can quickly become saturated when exposed to the atmosphere. To minimize system exposure, it is important to have all necessary tools and supplies ready for quick reassembly during installation. The A/C Accumulator serves as a reservoir for the system refrigerant and is located on the right side of the engine compartment, behind the upper crossmember. To remove it, detach the refrigerant line fittings and remove the three mounting bolts. Prior to installation, ensure that the system is discharged and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. When disconnecting the refrigerant lines from the A/C Accumulator, use a back-up wrench to prevent tubing twisting. Immediately plug the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering. Loosen the mounting bracket bolts and lift out the A/C Accumulator. Installation is the reverse of removal. If a new A/C Accumulator is being installed, add one ounce of refrigerant oil before installation. Finally, take the vehicle back to the shop that discharged it for system evacuation, recharge, and leak testing.
